1.Some teeth may be pulled out.
I did not have enough roomin my mouth for all of my teeth, which is why I experienced a lot of crowding. This is different for everybodybecauseI couldkeepon my teeth. But my orthodontist did suggest that I pull them out sothat I could make enough space in mymouth.
2. It takes weeks to get used to your braces.
I honestly thought that Iwould never get used to them becausewhen I first put them on, it feels big in my mouth. It’s hard todescribe the feeling but when I got mybraces on,I felt like my lips wanted togo underneath the braces. I was trying to get my lips to go over them.
3. You might sound different when you get braces.
When I got them to put on,I didhave a slight lisp because I feltmy mouth produces too much saliva.I constantly clear my mouth over saliva. It soundslike I’m talking differently. But atfirst, when I got them to put on,I justsounded like I had a whole mouth full ofstuff and I could not get used to it.
4. Have a lot of food stuck in between your braces.
This stillhappens to me, which is so annoying and I feellike I’m constantly feeling aroundthrough all the gaps with my tongueand trying to make sure that I geteverything out.
5. Learn to eat differently.
When I eat,Ialways have to chew at the very back ofmy mouthto avoid having food stuck up in the front of my braces. Ibecame accustomed to teaching myselfhow to eat differently and I eat untrue all of my food at the veryback of my mouth.
6. Constantly think about what you can and can't eat.
Yourorthodontist will give you a list offoods that you should avoid while youhave your braces on. For example, youcan’t have popcornand any hard candy-like caramel.
7. Eating in small bites.
It’sgoing to be so much easier because I do prefer to eat things atthe back of my mouth to avoid havingfood stuck all up in the front of myteeth. If you want to do this too, please cut your food up into tiny littlebite sizes.
8. Lip products can get stuck on your braces.
I run my tongue over myteeth at least 50 times a day to avoid this situation.
9. It does hurt.
Yes,getting your braces tightenedand getting adjustments dohurt.Butit’s different for everybody. I dohave a pretty high tolerance to pain. Sofor me getting adjustments was no bigissue. But I know for some peopledosuffer through them. You should beprepared that it is going to hurt.

10. Your mouth will get caught up.
Especially when you get them first puton.I think it’s the mostpainful thing that I’ve had to deal withso far in this treatment. Be prepared for your mouth to be caught upbecause it is going to hurt. You will have all thesecuts on the insides of your cheeks andit’s going to hurt. But if you let themheal by applying wax, then your mouthwill toughen up.
11. Use orthodontic wax
If you are going to suffer through thecuts, protective waxwillbe your best friend.Iwent through so much wax. If you have thechance, definitely apply wax on your brackets.Wax is the littlemoldable material that you can put over the brackets, which smoothsthem over so thatprevents the bracket from continuouslycutting into the wines that it’s alreadycreated on the inside of your mouth.
12. You need a water flosser.
Flossing will be a nightmareand so difficult. But you must do it. Ifyou can floss,I would recommend thatyou invest in a water flosser. You need to floss every dayto makesure that you get every single littlebit of food left in yourmouth out. Using traditional floss willbe. Irecommendyou invest in a water flosser.Youwill have braces on forover a year. If you’re going to invest insomething,a water flosser is a perfect choice.
If you take care of your teeth, you can get your braces off sooner. People often forget that having healthygums does help to make the process ofmoving your teeth a lot easier. It helpsthe braces do their thing a lot easier. If you’re constantly flossing yourteeth, brushing your teethand keepinggood oral hygiene and good gum health, then that is going to assist in you getting your braces off sooner.
13. Clear bands will stain.
Whenit comes to picking colors foryour braces,my only advice is that clearbands will stain.Mine is silver because I know that be clearbands will stainand it’s inevitable.
14. Your teeth won’t look as white.
Idid whiten my teeth beforegetting braces. You aren’tgoing to be able to traditionally whitenyour teeth while you have your braceson. But what I do is use acharcoal whitener to maintainthe whiteness of my teeth.
15. Your teeth are going to pull out.
Somany times throughout this treatment Ifeelthat my teeth areloose and I think they will fall out.You just need to know that all is normal. Theyare secure and won’t fall out.
16. Your bite will constantly change.
After you get anadjustment youmayfeel uncomfortable in the sense of you don’tknow how to close your mouth properlybecause it does change the waythat your teeth sit upon each otherespecially when they’re going throughthat process of closing gaps and movingaround.
17. Your face shape may change.
Because your teeth are shiftingandeverythingis moving. You might look a littlebit different. But it’s honestly sosubtle that you won’t even notice it.
18. Your brackets may break.
It’s okay becausethey can be fixedso easily. Don’t freakout.I have only, fortunately, hadone bracket break off at the very backof my mouth. It happened while I waseating rice. Typically brackets willbreak off when you eat certainfoods that trigger them to snapoff.
19. Use lip balm.
Your lips will get dry and chapped100 times than usual. You need to always have lip balm on you.
20. Mirror will be your best friend.
Youwillconstantly ask people: do Ihave something stuck on my teeth? So if you have a mirror, everything will be easier.
