Let’s imagine sitting in a small coffee shop in busy Mexico City, and the sun sprinkles on your face while you enjoy a traditional Mexican Coffee. Doesn’t this sound fabulous? That’s at least how I enjoyed my very first Cafe de Olla!

Mexican Chiapas Coffee

Mexicans have a vivid culture for coffee while proudly delivering the world with aromatic Mexican Chiapas coffee. Chiapas is a state in the very south of Mexico, right next to Guatemala.

Chiapas comes with a beautiful landscape, tropical climate, and lots of rainforests. The conditions are perfect for growing coffee.

Fortunate for all us coffee drinkers, this delicious coffee is also available around the world. NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto has launched new Mexico Chiapas Grande coffee capsules. The new line is an organic single-origin Arabica & Robusta coffee and pours 1 cup, also called as Grande, of aromatic coffee.

The new Mexico Chiapas Grande is a full bodied coffee with rich notes of toasted hazelnut and plum. I can be enjoyed with or without milk. I love to drink one in the morning served with oat milk.

Mexico Chiapas Grande completes the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Absolute Origin range which includes three other coffee varieties from South America:

  • Columbia – Sierra Nevada – Lungo → A delicate lungo with notes of toasted almond, nutmeg, and barley!
  • Honduras – Corquin – Espresso → A smooth espresso with notes of honey, dark chocolate, and malt!
  • Peru – Cajamarca -– Espresso → An intense espresso with aromas of wood, licorice, subtle pink pepper, and blackcurrant bud notes!

All three, like the Mexico Chiapas Grande, are organic single-origin Arabica coffee and certified Fair Trade.

What is single origin?

It means that all the coffee beans are coming from one single origin. Most coffees aren’t single origin, which means that they use a mixture of beans from different regions or countries to produce a blend. This helps to keep a consistent taste over the years.

Coffee beans are usually harvested once a year, but not every year’s harvest has the same quality and taste. Weather, rainfall, parasites – all have an impact on the coffee quality. If you only use the harvest of one region, you will undoubtedly taste a difference if the quality isn’t consistent. Therefore, it’s much easier to balance it with a blend of different coffee beans.

Single-origin is a more exclusive coffee and often more expensive. Although, you know precisely which coffee beans from which region you are drinking, and you have the chance to experience one particular taste. Especially coffee experts do appreciate this experience!

NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto PICCOLO XS

Let me introduce you to this new beauty in my home: the new Piccolo XS from NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto!

Cafe de Olla Recipe (Mexican Coffee) | Aline Made (4)

Isn’t that a beauty? It’s the smallest Dolce Gusto coffee machine ever!

It’s perfect if you:

Love Design

Have a small kitchen

Love all things white (as I do)

Don’t worry, it comes in three different colors, so not only white lovers come to their joy. It’s also available in black and red. But if you are following me for quite a while, you should know that I love all things white! It looks so pretty in my small kitchen!

This beauty comes with a large water tank, 1 Minute Eco Mode (turns on and off automatically), and you can adjust the cup holder to fit three different cup sizes.

The only feature I am missing here is the adjustable scroll bar I know and love from my previous Lumio machine. It would be nice if the Piccolo XS would come with a scroll bar too.

But this new beauty is a manual coffee machine, which explains the absence of this convenient feature. In the end, it comes at a more affordable price than an automatic machine, and who doesn’t love to save some bucks?!

Mexican Cafe de Olla Recipe

Let me show you two different ways to make this delicious sweet coffee at home.

You can either make it with the use of the new Mexico Chiapas Grande coffee or if you don’t have a NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto at home, with any regular coffee.

The original coffee calls for Panela, a typical Latin American unrefined whole cane sugar. But it’s not necessary to go on the lookout for this sugar. You can easily substitute it with brown sugar, which is available in every supermarket.

What makes this coffee so special is the use of cinnamon sticks. The aromatic taste of cinnamon gives this coffee a whole new flavor. Instead of Cafe de Olla, you could also call it coffee with sugar and cinnamon!

Sweetness:If you don’t like utterly sweet coffee, only use half of the sugar.

Cinnamon:I don’t suggest replacing the cinnamon sticks with ground cinnamon.

Shelf life:You can store the coffee overnight in the refrigerator and reheat it the next morning, for the case you have leftovers.
