We love a well-made cappuccino as much as the next person, but we’ve got to be honest: having hot coffee in your hand on a sweltering summer day can be pretty miserable.
That’s where the Tim Hortons Iced Capps Recipe comes in. This cold, blended java beverage effectively beats the heat while giving you a much-needed caffeine kick. But here’s some sad news: the Tim Hortons franchise only has locations in Canada and a limited number of American states.
Fortunately, you don’t have to be excluded from the Iced Capp craze just because you don’t live near one of these coffeehouses. Treat yourself to the homemade version of this iced drink and use our copycat Tim Hortons Iced Capps recipe to do it.

What is the Iced Capp?
Iced Capps, or blended iced cappuccinos, were created for the coffee enthusiast who needs a freezing cold, slightly sweet treat to make it through the mid-afternoon slump.
The original Iced Capp is espresso, ice cubes, and cream blended into something resembling a slushie. However, the drink is customizable, and customers can choose to add vanilla, hazelnut, chocolate, or cookies ‘n cream syrup or use two-percent milk instead of cream. You can even order a dairy-free version by requesting the drink with almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk.

You’ll Need:
- 1 cup of strong coffee
- 3 tablespoons of dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 splash of vanilla syrup
- 1/2 cup of your favorite creamer
- ice cubes
- blender
- tall glass
The Process:
Step 1:
In the tall glass, combine dark brown sugar, vanilla extract, vanilla syrup, and coffee. Then, stir the coffee mixture until all the sugar granules dissolve. The kind of coffee you use is up to you, as regular coffee, cold brew coffee, or a couple of espresso shots will all do the trick; it just depends on how strong you want the finished product to be.
Step 2:
Next, pour the sweet, vanilla-infused coffee mixture into a blender, add creamer and a few cubes of ice, and blend. If you’re using a high-speed blender, use the pulse setting so the ice doesn’t turn into liquid; we’re going for a slushy consistency here. Ultimately, the creamer you use is up to you, but we used an oat milk-based one for our drink.
Step 3:
When you’ve finished blending your joe, pour it into a tall glass, and sip away!

A Few Recipe Modifications
The Tim Hortons Iced Capp recipe is great because it leaves plenty of room for customization. Here are a few simple ways a coffee drinker can put a spin on this beverage:
- Use coffee cubes. The downside of using regular iced cubes is that when they melt, you’re left with a cup full of watered-down disappointment. However, coffee ice cubes — made by pouring coffee into ice trays and freezing them — make that a non-issue. When those melt, they add even more of that delicious coffee taste into your cup. So, even if you have to take a break from sipping your Iced Capp for a minute, you don’t have to worry about coming back to a diluted drink.
- Add chocolate. Our copycat recipe tells you how to make a vanilla-flavored drink, but feel free to indulge your chocolate cravings by blending inchocolate milkinstead of cream or using chocolate syrup instead of vanilla. You don’t want chocolate or vanilla? Not a problem; use anotherflavored syrup!
- Sweeten the deal differently. If you and your sweet tooth aren’t fans of brown sugar, don’t use it. Add a bit of white sugar instead, or pour in a couple of tablespoons of maple syrup or agave syrup.
- Substitute creamer with heavy cream or milk.Did you know the type of creamer you use changes the consistency of your morning or afternoon drink? If you want your version of this delicious treat to be extra-creamy, use heavy cream instead of creamer. For something a bit thinner, however, add a half cup of milk to the mix.
- Go dairy-free.You might live a dairy-free lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an Iced Capp. Skip the cream and use one of the non-dairy milks Tim Hortons offers in this drink — almond, coconut, or oat milk — or substitute another milk alternative you enjoy.
- Use instant coffee. If you’re looking for a way to use those packets of instant coffee granules that have been sitting in your cabinet forever, this is the time. One of the biggest complaints about instant coffee is that it tastes bitter or overwhelmingly strong. However, add-ins like cream, vanilla syrup, and ice — you know, all the things this recipe requires — do a great job of making the just-add-water brew more palatable.
Save Yourself a Trip to Tim Hortons
Maybe you’re a Tim Hortons expert who finds yourself at the coffeehouse far more frequently than your wallet would like. Or perhaps you’ve heard of the franchise but have never gotten the chance to try it. You might have never even heard of the Canadian-born company; you just can’t pass up a chilly coffee drink. No matter which camp you fall into, this simple recipe is for you. And because it’s so easily customizable, we’re sure you’ll have no trouble creating a version of the Iced Capp you love.
